When fiction becomes reality… recycling could become obsolete. Imagine going shopping in your favourite organic supermarket and buying all kinds of products. Then, what do you do with the packaging once you have consumed everything? eat it!
The crazy idea being developed by a team of biomedical scientists at Havard University is to design fully-edible bottles. Their biodegradable material could be peeled off and eaten. These “foodstuffs” could even be flavoured. The team claims to have successfully produced a tomato-flavoured gazpacho carton, an orange-flavoured orange juice bottle or a wine box that tastes of grapes.
These developments are technically feasible because of the electrostatic force that enables you to create solid matter from food.
The scientists are going even further by planning to manufacture an appliance that would enable each person to produce their own biodegradable containers from peelings or left-over food.
