The United States, organic products do not always have democratized and remain niche products, despite their increased availability and increasing awareness of public about their health benefits ; and the environment, according to a new study by marketing research firm TABS Group.

During the past year, the number of consumers of organic products has not increased, although the organic trend has spread, according to e study published December 10.

The study shows that American adults were most enthusiastic when it comes to buying organic fruits (26% of purchases) and organic vegetables (25% of purchases) , organic eggs (17%) and organic milk (16%), for fresh foods. Quant-to frozen foods such as vegetables, fruits and ice ranged between 5 and 7% of purchases of organic products, according to the study.

Consumers seem to favor traditional supermarkets to buy their products rather than bios specialty stores, which leads researchers to believe that sellers who bet on the bio does can not expect good returns on their investments.

"foods and organic beauty products continue to be niche products, they do not affect the masses, to date," said Dr. Kurt Jetta, President the TABS Group. "Like last year, only 38% of adults say they have bought products in key categories of organic products over the last six months."

Meanwhile, the market for organic products continues to grow in Europe despite the economic crisis. In the United Kingdom, sales of organic food are expected to increase by 8.7%, reaching 38 billion dollars by the end of 2009, according to market research firm Packaged Facts.

A recent article published on the blog of the Daily Telegraph (Nov. 21) shows that organic products are taking hold in Eastern Europe. In Poland, most supermarkets now offer organic products on their shelves, and Romania has experienced record sales of fruits and organic vegetables (15 times more organic products sold this year compared to last year in 21 stores belonging to the Carrefour group). In Hungary, the markets of organic products have become a weekly appointment must, according to the study.

poll TABS Group on organic products, which covers food and cosmetics, was conducted among 1,000 people over 18 years.
