300 new organic producers per month in 2009
According to preliminary estimates from the Agency BIO, 3 600 new producers are engaged in farming in 2009, producing 300 more on average each month.
In one year, the pace of engagement has more than doubled. The number of organic producers has increased by 23% in 2009 compared to 2008. In total, end 2009, 16 400 farmers cultivated by mode of production biological France when they were 13 298 in 2008. This is the strongest increase observed since 1995. In all, France had 25 000 operators (producers, processors, importers and distributors) involved in bio to 31/12/2009, ie 20% more than the previous year. A total of 4 100 new operators have joined the players bio in 2009.
